Study the Healthy

This TED talk, and article inspired by it, got me jumping around with excitement.  What a great concept, and I want to be friends with Stephen Friend.  He’s got his finger on the pulse in health science in a way that we don’t often see.

Check out the article here: How Healthy People Who Should Be Sick Could Revolutionize Medicine

His concept in disease research: Study The Healthy.

The ultimate understanding about how not to get sick is to figure out what keeps healthy people healthy.

He does talk a great deal about genetic protectors, however research like this would also help more solidly identify other commonalities among those who have prevented the onset of an illness they may be predisposed to because of family history.

Brilliant!  Let’s hope there is a growing space carved out for this type of research in the future.

Good Morning Laura, This is truly thinking out of the box,in terms of pro-active health.I have family history of heart disease(ie.mother died@41&sister passed away@23@brother is a paranoid schizophrenic&father died@61 of heart disease) and depression in my family. Out of the five in my family I’m only one healthly or left in intact. Again great insight! Regards, -Greg B.
