I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a segment on the celebrity “news” show “Extra” last night. They were talking about the health benefits of Brussels Sprouts!
I have to hand it to them… it was a really great segment. Of course the spin was “Brussels Sprouts the new Botox”… understandable since those who eat mainly a plant based diet, with lots of vegetables from the brassica family (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) tend to be very well preserved. These vegetables are very detoxifying and are loaded with phytonutrients that protect the skin’s cells from aging.
They named Chia Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds and Cherries to round out the 4 super foods on their list. Great choices.
It was great to see them feature a simple recipe for the Sprouts that is also my favourite way to make them. My hubby used to hate them and now he eats them! I was also shocked to see my son pop them as finger food.
Historically this is one of the most loathed veg, but maybe this TV appearance is it’s big break! I’m rooting for you, little sprouts!
